October 2017 Playground Build
Another impoverished colonia in Mexico has a brand new playground to bring years of fun, joy and family time. Another group of 23 amazing volunteers – some new and some “repeat offenders” gave of their time, money, energy and beautiful spirits to make this happen. Not an easy task wth a daily temperature of over 40 degrees!!
The playground was built in Villas Morelos which is about 90 minutes north of Vallarta. To say that the families there were happy and grateful would be a huge understatement. They were working side by side with our Angels for Mexico volunteers from the moment we got onsite. Language is never a barrier on these trips as we are all working towards a common goal. There are some pretty funny charades that happen though. : )
This playground was dedicated to Blue Falconer, a Calgary Firefighter who passed from cancer in 2016 at the age of 36. His parents, wife, children and a few family friends came to help and were pretty overwhelmed at the finished product. Blue loved children so we are pretty sure he is hanging out at his playground and enjoying what he sees.
Next fall we are planning on building our next playground – and possible a small firehall – in an area a little further north called Las Varas. Stay tuned for more details.
To our amazing volunteers I give my most hearfelt gratitude and admiration.
