Angels for mexico Raffle Winner and a Heartwarming Story

November 16, 2016

First of all, I want to say thank you so much to each of you for supporting us in first raffle. It was very successful. We raised over $7000 and it was fun to do – not nearly as draining as the fundraiser nights. I am sure that we will be able to hit the $10,000 maximum when we do it again next fall.

The winner of the grand prize was Captain Neal Sevcik of the Calgary Fire Departmen
I phoned Neal after the draw, to tell him and had arranged to go by his firehall on Friday to drop off the prize. He phoned me the next day and said that he felt that he has enough blessings in his life and would like to give the prize to a widow of a Calgary Firefighter who passed from cancer this past August .His name is “Blue” Falconer and he was only 39 years old. He and his wife, Deb, have 4 young children. I was more than stunned at this act of kindness but also very excited to be a part of something like this We had to wait for a few days while she processed the offer but called me to accept on Tuesday.

Deb will be going to Mexico next fall, with her children, and during the week that they are there (in Los Ayala), we will build our next playground and dedicate it to Blue. I have to say that I did not see this amazing twist of events coming but all of us on the Board are thrilled to play a part in something positive and spirit building for this family. Let me know if you are interested in coming along next October as I have a feeling this build is going to fill up very quickly.

Our second place winner was Penny Murray from Airdrie.

Once again, many, many thanks. We are off on Saturday to build our playground in La Puerta de la Lima so watch for pictures on our website, www.angelsformexico.com. I will also be meeting with some of the firefighters in the area to get a list of needs for our next shipment…
